This Day in History: 1967-05-20

20 May 1967

The naming ceremony of River Mite, took place on the Ravenglass station turntable. It had previously been announced that Sir John Brocklebank, the younger son of Sir Aubrey Brocklebank under whose control the Railway grew and prospered from around 1920, would perform the naming ceremony. At the commencement of the ceremony, the Society Chairman, Mr Satow, announced that Sir John Brocklebank was in hospital in London and he read a telegram from him and his wife wishing good luck to the River Mite and all who look after her. Alderman Tim Westoll, Chairman of Cumberland County Council, at very short notice performed the naming ceremony.

The guests to the commissioning had lunch at the Pennington Arms in Ravenglass.
