'Anita' The Flail

In 1991, the Society purchased a Twose mechanical flail mower at a cost of £3600 to help keep the grass verges under control, on either side of the track.

Its engine only powers the flail, so the vehicle must be hauled or propelled about the line by another loco.

Nicknamed ‘Anita’, because she helps to keep ‘a neater’ lineside!

This diesel locomotive, named after Cyril Holland, a long-standing member of staff [1922-1953, and 1960-1991], is owned and maintained by the Murthwaite Locomotive Group, an associated group of the Preservation Society. The loco is often used for shunting around Ravenglass station.
