This Day in History: 1966-02-26

26 February 1966

Over two days, the arch of the footbridge which originally spanned the station at Coniston was installed near the turntable at Ravenglass Station. The bridge was purchased by the then Chairman of the Preservation Society, Patrick Satow, and was donated to the Railway Company for use over the tracks. This was the first stage in the reorganisation of Ravenglass Station which was hoped to include new platforms as well as improvements to the track layout.
