The R&ER Magazine Railway Opening Special Edition 1875/1876 (published May 2025)

In 2025, the Preservation Society is marking the significant 150th anniversary year since the opening of the railway in 1875 (as a three-foot gauge line) by producing a special edition of our quarterly publication The R&ER Magazine. This sesquicentenary edition (produced through the Society’s Trust) imagines the sort of Magazine which might have been produced 150 years ago at the time of the railway’s opening. The articles, features and illustrations included in the special Magazine are similar to those in current issues of the Magazine, but are contemporary with the 1870s with plenty of information about the construction and opening of the three-foot gauge railway.
"A really great celebration of the 150th anniversary!”
“An excellent read!”
"What an entertaining, well researched piece you have produced!”
“Absolutely brilliant!"
