Over the past month and a half, the Permanent Way department along with the help of a number of volunteers have steadily been laying the track to connect the new workshop to the rest of the railway. This has involved relaying the curve between the gate at the end of platform 3 and the point on the headshunt alongside the big railway, laying 5 sets of points and re-aligning the old line by the big railway fence to create a run round loop in the area. The materials used are mostly second hand from previous projects, with some new softwood sleepers. As of the end of the 5th May, most of the track has been laid and the workshop has been reconnected to the rest of the railway. Ballasting, lifting and packing still needs to be completed before locos can use the new track. The photos show the progress that has been made over the past few weeks.
